LARGE BYZANTINE GOLD EARRING WITH PEACOCKS. Ca. AD 500 - 600. A gold earring with an openwork lunate plaque, the field with two confronted peacocks flanking a central spray. A dotted inner border runs beneath a plain rim, small hemispherical studs set at the flanks. A round-section wire hoop passes through a loop at the apex and fastens with a hooked catch.
