FRAGMENT OF A DRAPED STATUETTE White marble H. 38 cm Roman art, 2nd century Provenance Former private collection in the South of France, acquired before 1983 Photographs, December 1983 Collection inventory dated 1991 By inheritance A sworn statement with a photograph will be provided to the purchaser confirming that this lot has been part of the aforementioned collection since the 1970s Fragment corresponding to the lower part of a draped female statuette; the head, arms and lower legs are missing. The figure is dressed in a short chiton cinched at the waist, forming a gathered fold (kolpos) and falling in deep, dynamic folds, with the leg emerging from beneath the fabric. The short garment and the dynamic drapery are characteristic of the type known as Diana the Huntress (Artemis), derived from a Greek model. The surface shows significant earthy deposits and marked wear.
