ISRAËL (ISIDOR) PASS (1868 – AFTER 1935) Preparation for the Bar Mitzvah signed in Cyrillic and dated ‘I. Pass 1911’ (bottom right) oil on canvas Framed 55.5 x 69.5 cm Unframed 54 x 68 cm Painted in 1911 Israel Pass, also known as Isidor Alekseevich Pass, was a Russian painter and draughtsman. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg from 1878 to 1885, where he was awarded the title of second-class artist. He took part in exhibitions organised by the Society of Individualist Artists and the Society of Artists of St Petersburg (Petrograd). His work includes portraits, still lifes and genre scenes, which were published in Russian magazines such as *Niva*, *Rodina* and *Iskra*. He also contributed to the decoration of the façades of the church in the Hunters’ Colony in Gatchina. His works are held in several Russian museum collections, notably at the K. A. Savitsky Regional Art Gallery in Penza and the State Literary Museum in Moscow. At the buyer’s request, we would be happy to provide a general report on the condition of the lot described above.
