Umberto Brunelleschi was an Italian painter, illustrator and costume designer who settled in Paris around 1900. Initially known for his caricatures and illustrations for major French magazines, he became one of the most notable illustrators and decorative artists of the Art Deco period. He illustrated numerous deluxe editions, such as Alfred de Musset’s *La Nuit vénitienne*, whose Venetian setting and elegant costumes lent themselves particularly well to his decorative style. He also worked as a set designer and costume designer for the theatre and music halls.
