Description
PAOLO TROUBETZKOY (1866–1938) Jockey signed ‘Paolo Troubetzkoy’ (on the plinth) bronze H. 37 cm Plinth 38 x 17 cm We would like to thank Roberto Troubetzkoy for the additional information regarding this sculpture. This sculpture depicts the famous racehorse Crapom, owned by Mario Crespi of the *Corriere della Sera*, ridden by the equally famous jockey Paolo Caprioli, winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris in 1933. Paolo Troubetzkoy was probably inspired by a photograph taken at Longchamp. The whereabouts of the original are currently unknown, although several replicas are known to exist. The Museo del Paesaggio holds the plaster model, inventory no. T 28, which is unsigned. The story of the horse and its jockey has been studied by Dr Elisabetta Giordani in her book ‘Identità Rivelate – Personaggi ritratti da Paolo Troubetzkoy’. At the buyer’s request, we shall be happy to provide a general report on the condition of the lot described above. However, as we are not professional conservators or restorers, we strongly advise potential buyers to carry out their own inspection or to consult a specialist of their choice to obtain a comprehensive assessment of the lot’s condition. Descriptions of items provided in the catalogue or by correspondence are for information purposes only and should not be regarded as a definitive assessment. NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSION REGARDING A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD ‘AS IS’, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE PUBLISHED IN THE CATALOGUE.
