Galina Makowskaja is a Ukrainian graphic artist and set designer. Born in Kyiv, she studied at the Kyiv School of Art and Industry, then at the Moscow Institute of Silicates and Building Materials. From the 1930s onwards, she worked as a theatre artist in Tashkent and then in Kyiv, creating stage sets, posters, illustrations and graphic works. She took part in Ukrainian and Soviet art exhibitions from 1934 onwards and held solo exhibitions in Tashkent and Kyiv. She became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR in
1962. In many works from her series, Makovskaya employs a triptych composition, placing the main event or character at the centre, whilst the two side panels depict related events.
