Description
Christian DOTREMONT & Serge VANDERCAM,
What nonsense to regard cleanliness as the absence of relationships,
Mixed media on paper. Inscription within the composition: ‘What nonsense to regard cleanliness as the absence of relationships. Cleanliness is the homogeneity of all relationships. ”
50 × 36 cm.
Provenance:
Private collection, Belgium. Given by Serge Vandercam around 1964–1965 to a young photographer who had graduated from La Cambre, on the occasion of the photographic reproduction of his works (in keeping with family tradition). Preserved by descent to the present day.
Note:
This work belongs to the ‘Boues’ series, created in 1959 by Serge Vandercam in collaboration with Christian Dotremont.
The dialogue between the written form and the material bears witness to the two artists’ joint exploration of the sign, the gesture and language, in the spirit of the Cobra movement.
