Description
Christian DOTREMONT & Serge VANDERCAM
Boue, de terre et de feu. Mixed media on paper.
Inscribed ‘BOUE’ within the composition and ‘de terre et de feu’ in the bottom right-hand corner.
50 × 35 cm.
Provenance:
Private collection, Belgium. Presented by Serge Vandercam around 1964–1965 to a young photographer who had graduated from La Cambre, on the occasion of the photographic reproduction of his works (in keeping with family tradition). Preserved by the family to the present day.
Note:
This work belongs to the ‘Boues’ series, created in 1959 by Serge Vandercam in collaboration with Christian Dotremont.
The dialogue between writing and material bears witness to the two artists’ joint exploration of the sign, the gesture and language, in the spirit of the Cobra movement.
