Jean Popsel (1720–?) ‘Louis XVI chest of drawers’, marquetry inlay and a marble top. 18th century. Chest of drawers with two drawers and a marble top. Richly decorated with floral marquetry and geometric patterns. Mounted with bronze hardware. Signed ‘J. Popsel’ underneath the marble and also marked ‘JME’ for ‘Jurande des Menuisiers-Ebenistes’. Jean Popsel was recognised as a ‘Maître ébéniste’ in 1755. France, 18th century.
