A Richly decorated mantel clock, Erato and Cupid, Louis XVI style, ormolu bronze and Carrara marble, France, 19th century. Fire-gilded bronze and Carrara marble. Mantel clock mounted with sculptures of Erato (one of the nine Muses) and Cupid/Amor, as an allegory of Poetry and Love. Decorated with garlands, frieze with putti, bow, and 'starry sky'. Dial signed 'Gilles L'Ainé à Paris'. Mechanism with half-hour strike. France, 19th century.
