Until 1957, Macario Vitalis lived in Puteaux, when he was not staying in Brittany, in Plestin-les-Grèves, a seaside village between Roscoff and Perros-Guirec. The intensity of the light, the beauty of the landscapes and the warmth shown to him by the locals prompted him to return frequently and even to take up residence there in 1957, whilst continuing to visit Puteaux regularly. This painting, depicting the church at Locquirec, was painted during one of his stays in Plestin-les-Grèves.
