Description
Isaac DOBRINSKY (Makaroff 1891 – Paris 1973)
Presumed portrait of Marcel Duchamp
Circa 1924/1927
Pencil on paper
31 x 23 cm
Signed lower right “Dobrinsky”
This portrait probably depicts Marcel Duchamp.
Isaac Dobrinski was in fact in the habit of visiting the Café du Dôme to sketch portraits of artists or patrons who would gather there to revolutionise art, put the world to rights, play cards and chess, the latter being Marcel Duchamp’s favourite game at the Dôme.
We would like to thank Mr Christian Puech, author of the first bilingual monograph on Isaac Dobrinsky: ‘De l’autre à soi : Rencontres’, for the information he has kindly provided regarding this work.
H: 31 x W: 23 cm
