Description
ARBER (Edward). A transcript of the registers of the Company of Stationers of London, 1554–1640, A.D. Mansfield Centre, Martino Publishing, 2007. 5 volumes bound in 3 parts (2 in-8 and 1 in-4), in the publisher’s green cloth.
Reprint of the first edition published in Birmingham between 1875 and 1894. The Stationers’ Company was founded in the 15th century to protect and regulate the book trade in London; it contains the registers of the Court’s books, those of the English joint-stock company, and the pension and apprenticeship registers, as well as the ‘Entry Books of Copies’, which are of particular interest to researchers as they record the names of authors and the titles of books submitted to the Company for printing.
