GENET (Jean). *Les Nègres*, a farce. Décines, L'Arbalète, Marc Barbezat, n.d. [1958]. In-8, paperback, hardback-style cover. First edition of this play, which premiered on 28 October 1959 at the Théâtre de Lutèce. Copy marked HC for ‘Hors commerce’ (not for sale). This copy is enhanced by an autograph dedication from Jean Cocteau to Marc [Barbezat], accompanying this admirable ‘clownery’, along with a very fine original ink drawing dated 1959 and signed by the same. Marc Barbezat, a wealthy chemist based in Décines, near Lyon, founded the magazine *L’Arbalète* in 1940, followed by the publishing house of the same name. Through Jean Cocteau, he met Jean Genet, whose first books he published without ever censoring them.
