LONGUS. Les Amours pastorales de Daphnis et Chloé. [Paris], 1745. - Small in-4, 200 x 150 : frontispiece, (6 ff. first blank), 159, xx pp. 29 plates. Red morocco, spine ribbed and decorated, interior gilt roulette, gilt edges, slipcase (Bumpus Ltd binders. Oxford St. W.). Cohen, 652. Reprint of the 1718 edition, with the same illustrations consisting of a frontispiece engraved by Audran after Coypel, 28 plates engraved by the same artist after the paintings made by the regent Philippe d'Orléans, as well as a vignette on the title, 4 beautiful unsigned bands and 4 pretty culs-de-lampe by Cochin in the first printing. There is also the figure of the "petits pieds" attributed to the comte de Caylus and engraved for the first time in 1728, as well as 4 pretty culs-de-lampe by Cochin in the first edition. One of the rare copies on large paper, reprinted in small in-4 format, complete with the figure of the "petits pieds" attributed to the comte de Caylus and engraved for the first time in 1728, added at the head. A fine copy bound by the Bumpus workshops in London at the end of the 19th century, from the library of the German banker Jean Furstenberg (1890-1982), best known as a bibliophile, who had assembled one of the most important private collections of precious books and bindings.
