Description
[ARAGON (Louis)]. *Le Con d'Irène*. No place, no publisher [Paris, René Bonnel], 1928. Quarto, red morocco, plain spine, black suede lining and endpapers, gilt edges, cover and spine, slipcase (J.-P. Miguet). First edition, published in the spring of 1928 by René Bonnel, the publisher of Georges Bataille’s *Histoire de l’œil*, in collaboration with Pascal Pia, but without the names of the author, publisher or illustrator.
Camus regarded *Le Con d’Irène* as the finest text dealing with eroticism, with its extraordinary introduction—characterised by extreme violence and devoid of punctuation—which concludes with this sentence: ‘If you have loved even once in this world, do not wake me if you have loved’.
One of the masterpieces of erotic literature, illustrated with five original etchings by André Masson, including a frontispiece and four insert plates.
A very fine copy ‘in red and black’, impeccably produced by Miguet.
A print run of 150 numbered copies; this is one of the 125 printed on Arches laid paper in the original format.
Pia, 237 – Dutel, no. 1270.
