BATAILLE (Georges). *Histoire de rats* (*Journal de Dianus*). Paris, Éditions de Minuit, 1947. 8vo, paperback, grey embossed cover printed in black and white. First edition illustrated with three etchings by Alberto Giacometti. One of 160 copies on tinted Rives vellum. In 1946–1947, Alberto Giacometti was approached by Bataille and Éditions de Minuit, who were planning to publish this scandalous text. Giacometti prepared around thirty drawings and prints for the project, including several portraits of Georges Bataille and his wife Diane Bataille. Some of the drawings, such as the *Head of Georges Bataille*, are now preserved separately from the book and bear witness to the scale of this preparatory work.
