BATAILLE (Georges). *Le Mort*. Paris: Au vent d’Arles, 1964. Folio, loose-leaf, vellum slipcase with overlapping flaps, sand-coloured canvas case (publisher’s slipcase). First edition illustrated by André Masson with 9 colour engravings. One of 20 copies accompanied by a set of engravings and a rejected plate (no. XXVIII), this one signed by the artist on the margin. Each engraving in the set is signed by the artist in graphite. Autograph dedication signed by André Masson to Mr and Mrs Weisman: ‘With warmest regards – and in memory of my friend Georges Bataille’. The series of engravings is contained in a folio-sized half-vellum folder with sand-coloured cloth covers. Some foxing, transfer marks from the engravings; the folder and slipcase are slightly soiled.
