Description
ALPES-MARITIMES (06) – “NICE, view from the Villa Venanson”. 19th century. Original DRAWING by Félix Benoist (1818–1896) in graphite, lightly highlighted with white gouache, on unbleached vellum paper (two sheets joined together by the artist). PREPARATORY DRAWING for the lithograph entitled “NICE, view from the Villa Venanson”, for the album “NICE ET SAVOIE” published in 1864 by Charpentier. Inscribed “Nice, view from the Villa Venanson” in grey pencil in the bottom left-hand corner. Provenance: Collection of the Charpentier studio run by Pierre-Henri (1788–1854) and his son Henri-Désiré (1806–1883), printers and publishers based in Paris, then in Nantes (from 1854). 22 x 31.5 cm. Condition A (in good condition).
