Description
HAUTE-SAVOIE (74) – “Suspension Bridge and the Bains de la CAILLE” (Gorges des Usses – Allonzier-la-Caille and Cruseilles). 19th century. Original DRAWING by Félix Benoist (1818–1896) in graphite, highlighted with white gouache, on brown vellum paper. PREPARATORY DRAWING for the lithograph entitled “Suspension Bridge and the Bains de la CAILLE”, for the album “NICE ET SAVOIE” published in 1864 by Charpentier. Annotations by the artist in pencil on the upper margin of the sheet. Provenance: Collection of the Charpentier studio run by Pierre-Henri (1788–1854) and his son Henri-Désiré (1806–1883), printers and publishers based in Paris, then in Nantes (from 1854). 22 x 30.3 cm. Condition C (sun-faded drawing).
