NAPOLEON – PORTRAIT of General “MARCEAU, born in Chartres, a soldier at the age of 16, a general at 23, who died of his wounds at the age of 27, on the 3rd Junior Complementary Day of Year IV at Altenkirchen”. Early 19th century. Original aquatint by A. Sergent-Marceau (1751–1847). Print with letter, on laid paper with watermark (a clover in a house). Published in Paris by the artist and deposited at the National Library. Margins. 64 x 43.3 cm. Condition C (a large tear, previously restored and reinforced, extending across the entire right-hand side of the subject; rare marginal foxing).
