Description
SAILING SHIP DRAWING – Léon HAFFNER – [Sailing ship on the waves]. 1917. Original gouache by Léon HAFFNER (1881–1972), on paper. Signed and dated by the artist. Léon Haffner was a French painter, draughtsman and illustrator, specialising in seascapes and sailing ships. Born in Paris, he discovered his passion for the sea whilst staying in Le Havre. In 1918, he was appointed Official Painter to the Navy thanks to the quality and precision of his works. He also illustrated numerous books on French maritime history. 54 x 37.7 cm. Condition A (rare faint marks on the edges, formerly mounted on card, in good condition).
