Description
SAILBOAT DRAWING – Léon HAFFNER – [Sailboat on the Waves]. c.1917. Original gouache by Léon HAFFNER (1881–1972), on paper. Signed by the artist. Léon Haffner was a French painter, draughtsman and illustrator, specialising in seascapes and sailing ships. Born in Paris, he discovered his passion for the sea during stays in Le Havre. In 1918, he was appointed Official Painter to the Navy thanks to the quality and precision of his works. He also illustrated numerous books on French maritime history. 49.5 x 37 cm. Condition A/B (a few foxing spots, mainly around the edges and on the reverse; very slight sun damage, otherwise in good overall condition).
