ELEGANT EGYPTIAN BLUE ANIDRYTHE FLASK TRUSSED DUCK SHAPED New Kingdom, Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC. A pale blue-grey stone vessel carved in the form of a reposing duck, its plump, softly modelled body resting upon small projecting feet. The wings are rendered in low relief, their overlapping flight feathers articulated by fine, confident incisions. The bird turns its long neck backwards, forming an elegant arched handle, with its delicately shaped head and bill resting upon the back. Dark inlaid eyes enliven the composition, while a short cylindrical spout with a broad, everted rim projects from the rear. Remarkable for its harmonious proportions, refined naturalism and ingenious union of sculptural form and practical function. An exceptionally rare and highly accomplished example of New Kingdom luxury stone carving. Preserved in an extraordinary, apparently near-complete condition. Minor surface wear, scratches and deposits consistent with age; natural veining and colour variations throughout the stone.
