SCYTHIAN SILVER ALLOY JUG WITH WATER BIRDS FRIEZE Ca. 400 - 300 BC.
A silver alloy jug with a spreading foot, broad ovoid body, waisted neck, and thick rounded rim. The body is decorated with deep vertical fluting above and below a central repoussŽ frieze with water birds in profile among fish, set against a stippled ground. A plaited band encircles the shoulder above the fluting. For similar see: L'Or des Scythes: TrŽsors de l'Ermitage, 1991, Cat. 91.
