ROMAN GOLD NECKLACE WITH CARNELIAN AND GOLD AMPHORA-SHAPED PENDANT Ca. AD 1 - 300. A gold necklace of loop-in-loop chain suspending an amphora-shaped pendant centred by a carnelian body. The vessel has a narrow neck and flaring rim, with a pair of dolphins forming the handles and their tails joining the suspension ring above. A ribbed gold collar encircles the lower edge of the stone, above a spherical terminal and pendant granule. Size: 290mm x 30mm; Weight: 7.8g Provenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market in the 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
