Description
166. ZOLOTAS: GOLD BRACELET Featuring a series of engraved foliage motifs in scrollwork, signed Zolotas, French import hallmark for 18-carat gold (750 ‰), length 17 cm, gross weight 57.46 g, accompanied by a signed pouch. Founded in Athens in 1895 by Efthimios Zolotas, at the foot of the Acropolis, following an apprenticeship in Parisian workshops, the Zolotas house became the jeweller to the Greek elite and, in 1910, created jewellery for the Greek royal family to mark the coronation of King George V. Under the leadership of Xenophon Zolotas, the founder’s son, the house began collaborating with Greek archaeological museums in the early 1960s to reinterpret motifs from antiquity: lions, rams, meanders and laurel leaves became the hallmark of its designs. Based in Paris since the early 1970s, its clientele has included Maria Callas, Elizabeth Taylor and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
