Description
168. ZOLOTAS: RUBY AND EMERALD RING Featuring an openwork, tiered design, with the central lobes set with round rubies and emeralds, signed Zolotas, bearing the French import hallmark for 18-carat gold (750 ‰), ring size approximately 56, gross weight 10.0 g, accompanied by a signed pouch. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Zolotas issued for the ring and a similar bracelet. Founded in Athens in 1895 by Efthimios Zolotas, at the foot of the Acropolis, following an apprenticeship in Parisian workshops, Zolotas became the jeweller to the Greek elite and, in 1910, created jewellery for the Greek royal family to mark the coronation of King George V. Under the leadership of Xenophon Zolotas, the founder’s son, the house began collaborating with Greek archaeological museums in the early 1960s to reinterpret motifs from antiquity: lions, rams, meanders and laurel leaves became the hallmark of its designs. Based in Paris since the early 1970s, its clientele has included Maria Callas, Elizabeth Taylor and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
