Description
BRITAIN, 17th century. An Italian-style TABLE in natural oak. Rectangular in shape, the removable top has two extensions sliding on two long guides. The carved belt is decorated with pods, modillions and small feathered bird heads. The baluster base is composed of openwork consoles adorned with two figures, probably ecclesiastical. The bases are carved with turned columns and scrolled capitals. The bases are adorned with palmettes. It has ten turned balusters, joined by a crosspiece carved with shells and small spinning tops. The whole piece is assembled on a spacer carved with small rosettes. The piece of furniture is signed on the top of a pediment "Ian CLOAREC" and dated 1611. Breton work from the early 17th century. Length : 150 cm. Width : 67 cm. Height : 84 cm. A very similar model, given by Léonard, is in the Musée Breton, Quimper (inv. N° R.1885.33.1.). Nota bene: the later top was probably made in the 20th century. It is stamped "JC Jezequel". Restoration to the lower part of the base, wear to some of the carvings, but no active worm damage. It is rare to find this type of table in the Breton regionalism of this period.
