Description
GEO-FOURRIER (Lyon, 1898 - Quimper, 1966) Georges FOURRIER, known as
"Le brûleur de goémon de Notre-Dame de la Joie", 1936
Exceptional and unique suite of ten woodcuts, one-of-a-kind prints, with the final state. Engraved and produced by Takamizawa, Tokyo (stamp). All margins.
Height: 32.5 cm. Width: 40 cm (Pitting).
Provenance: Géo-Fourrier's personal collection.
Each print corresponds to a woodblock associated with a colour. It is the superimposition of these woods during printing that gives rise to the final work. These proofs, never published, were sent to Géo-Fourrier by Takamizawa so that he could supervise the work done in Japan. They constitute an extremely rare testimony. Geo-Fourrier collaborated with Takamizawa on four prints, including our seaweed burner. He sent his gouaches to the Tokyo publisher. As they passed through the hands of Japanese master engravers, they were transformed by this incomparable Japanese soul.
