Henry DELAUNAY (1883–1955).
Official FIFA medal commemorating the German national team’s victory at the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland. Inscription on the reverse: ‘World Champion – Jules Rimet Cup – Switzerland 1954’. This medal was presented to Henry Delaunay, a FIFA member and UEFA General Secretary in 1954, who helped establish the World Cup alongside Jules Rimet, as well as the European Champion Clubs’ Cup and the European Football Championship. Vermeil medal hallmarked 0.925‰ silver. Manufacturer: Peka. Weight: 14.6 grs. Dimensions: 2.3 x 3.6 cm; in its original cardboard box with a lid bearing details of the World Cup in gold lettering. The medal and box are in exceptional condition. The German team received 13 examples in 0.725‰ gold at the medal ceremony. This is the only known medal reserved for dignitaries. A museum piece.
