Description
Liturgical chalice, European school, 19th century. 410 GR 410 GR. Silver and gilt bronze. Liturgical chalice comprising a bell-shaped cup, a turned stem with a moulded central knob, and a wide circular base, decorated with fine engravings of plant motifs arranged in ornamental bands that lend rhythm and elegance to the whole. The gilded surface enhances the visual richness of the piece and reflects the tradition of preserving the interior of the cup with gilding, a common practice in religious metalwork. It retains its original case and the auxiliary tool used for handling it, elements that enhance its historical and functional interest. The careful execution of its proportions, the balance between ornamentation and purity of form, as well as the quality of the finish, place it within the European tradition of 19th-century ecclesiastical metalwork, inspired by Neoclassical models and intended for use in worship, where the nobility of the materials and technical excellence reinforce the symbolism and solemnity of the liturgy.
