An important collection of 10 authentic colonial silver ex-votos. Peru, 17th–18th century. An important collection of 10 authentic colonial silver ex-votos. Peru, 17th–18th century. A collection of ten silver ex-votos crafted using the repoussé technique and from cut sheet silver, together with one smaller example. The pieces feature the characteristic votive heart iconography, with varied outlines and decoration comprising rays, flames, scrolls, volutes and stylised plant motifs. Some still retain the textile ribbons used for hanging, reflecting their devotional use. The diversity of designs demonstrates the handcrafted production of viceregal workshops and the widespread use of these objects of popular piety in colonial Peru. Its value lies both in its historical and ethnographic significance and in the quality of its artisanal craftsmanship.
