FRANCESCO SOLIMENA (Canale di Serino, 1657 – Barra, 1747), workshop – Saint Vincent Ferrer Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 99 × 75 cm; dimensions including frame: 132 × 110 cm. This important painting, produced in the workshop of Francesco Solimena, one of the leading figures of the Neapolitan Baroque, depicts Saint Vincent Ferrer, a Spanish Dominican friar renowned for his tireless evangelising work and profound influence on European spirituality in the late Middle Ages. The composition reflects the style developed by the master during his mature period, characterised by a refined compositional balance, a masterful treatment of light, and intense expressiveness in the figures. The delicacy of the modelling, the richness of colour, and the elegance of the drapery reveal the work’s close connection to the output of Solimena’s prestigious workshop, which produced numerous paintings for churches and aristocratic collections in the Kingdom of Naples. The work is set in a magnificent wooden frame, finely carved, sculpted and gilded with silver and gold, crafted in the Baroque style, which notably enhances the monumentality of the piece.
