Chongtianer-type incense burner in celadon, Longquan, China, Song–Yuan dynasty Longquan celadon-glazed ceramic. Dimensions: height: 19.5 cm. An exceptional Chongtianer-style incense burner, produced in the renowned Longquan kilns during the Song or Yuan dynasties. It features a globular body resting on three short legs, a flared rim, and two tall, vertical handles arching outwards – characteristics of this style, which draws inspiration from ancient bronze ritual vessels. The celadon glaze, olive-green with beige undertones, displays a fine network of natural crackling typical of the finest Longquan ceramics, whilst the thicker areas reveal subtle and beautiful chromatic variations. The purity of form, the balance of proportions, and the quality of the glaze make this piece an excellent example of medieval Chinese ceramics, highly prized in both Eastern and Western markets. Bibliography: comparable examples held in major international collections and museums of Longquan ceramics from the Song and Yuan dynasties.
