Description
Yingqing bowl, Jingdezhen kilns, China, Northern Song Dynasty Yingqing glazed ceramic. Dimensions: diameter: 17 cm. An exceptional bowl produced in the renowned kilns of Jingdezhen during the Northern Song Dynasty, crafted from the characteristic Yingqing porcelain, prized for its refined, translucent sky-blue glaze. It features an open profile with thin walls and a ring foot, decorated on the outside with an elegant moulded relief lotus petal motif that extends to the base, whilst the interior remains smooth, highlighting the extraordinary purity of the glaze. The glaze develops a delicate natural crackle that accentuates the depth and luminosity of the surface, leaving the rim and the foot ring partially uncovered – a characteristic feature of the finest Jingdezhen pieces from this period. The simplicity of the forms, the delicacy of the decoration, and the exceptional quality of the glaze make this piece a magnificent example of Chinese Song Dynasty ceramics, one of the most admired art forms in the history of Oriental art. Bibliography: comparable pieces held in the Palace Museum in Beijing, the Shanghai Museum and the British Museum, corresponding to Yingqing porcelain from the Jingdezhen kilns of the Northern Song dynasty.
