Description
SINO-TIBETAN, 18th–19th century. A bronze statuette, formerly gilded, depicting a Green Tara seated in the royal ‘lalitasana’ posture on a lotus-shaped pedestal, her right hand in the varada mudra (gesture of giving), her left hand in the vitarka mudra (gesture of argumentation). The face is crowned with a diadem featuring five fleurons; the ears and body are adorned with jewellery. Two utpala lotuses, symbols of compassion and purity, surrounded by ‘dhânyamanjari’ spikes, complete the decoration. Unsealed base. Height: 18.5 cm. (Signs of wear).
