Designed to hold everything you need for everyday life. - The black-and-white ‘Plan de Paris’ embroidery, inspired by the House’s archives and centred around Avenue Montaigne – the House’s historic address – is enhanced by the ‘Christian Dior Paris’ signature on the front. The DIOR ‘Plan de Paris’ motif was created for the Dior Spring/Summer 2023 ready-to-wear collection, designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri. This poetic print, inspired by a scarf designed by Christian Dior in the 1950s, invites you to explore the places linking Dior and the capital, from the Faubourg-Saint-Honoré – where the founding couturier found his lucky star – to 30 Avenue Montaigne, the House’s iconic address that showcases the excellence of its craftsmanship. What makes it special? The ‘Plan de Paris by Dior’ motif is modelled on Turgot’s Map, which differed significantly from the scientific maps of the time, in the first half of the 18th century. Intended to be rendered in three dimensions and then presented to the French elite, the map was drawn by the perspective specialist Louis Bretez – a draughtsman rather than a cartographer – at Turgot’s request. The highlight? Its oblique perspective allows one to see the façades of the buildings and, above all, all the monuments as if travelling upstream along the Seine. The Dior workshops have developed an exclusive and innovative technique for three-dimensional embroidery: a masterful process that creates unique optical and relief effects. An ode to strolling!
