Description
CARIBBEAN FLAMINGO
Height: 1.13 metres, length: 88 cm.
II/A, Phoenicopterus ruber ruber. Tagged. CIC issued on 19/04/2004.
Distribution
Central America.
Note
The colour of its plumage varies in intensity; this is linked to its diet and the carotenoid pigments present in the algae and crustaceans it consumes. Its plumage is a brighter pink than that of all other flamingos, verging on red, which is why it is also known as the red flamingo.
