Description
RARE ABRUPTA TURTLE EGG Displayed in a display case. Egg diameter: Display case: height: 21 cm, sides: 10 cm. Aldabrachelys abrupta. Note This fossilised egg comes from an extinct species of giant tortoise endemic to Madagascar. Scientists estimate that it became extinct around the 12th century. However, remains – the dating of which is controversial – suggest that some individuals lived as late as the 14th century, coexisting with humans. The Aldabra tortoise was reintroduced to Madagascar in 2018; it is a direct descendant of these Aldabrachelys abrupta ancestors.
