Description
[Album amicorum]. An in-8 album, with bevelled cardboard covers bound in olive-green percaline; the front cover is adorned with a gilt plate decorated with oak leaves and acorns and bearing the inscription “Album”. The inner pages are edged with sepia or colour chromolithographs: landscape scenes, rustic scenes or floral motifs. They were used to collect poems by famous authors or short messages from schoolgirls, written in various handwritings. This is the souvenir album of a boarding school pupil who, in 1914, asked her classmates in the second year and fellow boarders to write her a short note or copy out a poem. Loose pages, an ink stain at the edge of the margin, fragile stitching. Experts: Loup Axmann and Jean-Luc Boisseau
