Description
DAMON (Hubert, ill.), texts by Andrée Chédid, Jean de Chauveron, Jean Mambrino, Bernard Noël, Jacques Réda, etc. *Le livre de Suèvres*. Suèvres, Maison du Bailli, 1971. Loose-leaf volume in a cream-coloured slipcase with a filled cover; the front cover is illustrated in black with a butterfly in flight. 11 colour linocuts by Hubert Damon. Limited edition of 65 numbered copies and 24 copies marked ‘0’ and reserved for the artist and contributors, printed on Rives paper and signed by the artist on the margin. This copy is marked ‘0’ and bears warm dedications to Jacques Guignard from Andrée Chédid and Darmon on the half-title page. The artist Hubert Damon illustrated the unpublished poems by the poets present at this creative workshop on 29, 30 and 31 May 1971 in Suèvres with 11 colour linocuts. The result is this unusual volume, owing to its small print run. Dusty slipcase. A palaeographer, archivist and erudite humanist, Jacques Guignard (1912–1980) devoted his career to the National Library, where he headed the Printed Works Department before taking charge of the Arsenal Library from 1961 to 1980. Combining a profound knowledge of the history of the book with a rare artistic sensibility, he enriched and promoted the heritage collections whilst playing a pioneering role in the development of international bibliophilia. Experts: Loup Axmann and Jean-Luc Boisseau
