Description
TRAYNIER (Jean, ill.), CAZOTTE (Jacques). The Devil in Love. Paris, Le Cénacle, 1966 (erroneously stated on the title page; 1946 on the colophon). Loose sheets in a burgundy red paper sleeve and slipcase. Original engravings and woodcut ornaments by Jean Traynier. Printed in a run of 110 copies, plus ten copies for contributors. This copy was specially printed for Jacques Guignard. Kindly sent by the illustrator. An archivist, palaeographer and erudite humanist, Jacques Guignard (1912–1980) devoted his career to the National Library, where he headed the Printed Works Department before taking charge of the Arsenal Library from 1961 to 1980. Combining a profound knowledge of the history of the book with a rare artistic sensibility, he enriched and promoted the heritage collections whilst playing a pioneering role in the development of international bibliophilia. Experts: Loup Axmann and Jean-Luc Boisseau
