REIGN OF HIS MAJESTY EMPEROR THANH THAI (1889–1907)
Scroll of an imperial decree, dated the 18th day of the eleventh month of the first year of the reign of His Majesty Emperor Thành Thái (1889).
On golden-yellow Dó paper from Annam, decorated with silver motifs depicting an imperial dragon and symbols of longevity. Bearing the imperial seal ‘Sắc Mệnh Chi Bảo’ (敕命之寶).

The Đoài ward, in the commune of Cao Cương, Tiên Lữ district, Hưng Yên province, traditionally venerated the God of Thunder and Lightning (雷電之神), renowned for his miraculous manifestations. The imperial court conferred upon him the title ‘Dực Bảo Trung Hưng Linh Phù Chi Thần’ (翊保中興靈扶之神) and authorised the continuation of his worship so that he might continue to protect the people.
