DOUDART DE LAGRÉE (Ernest), Explorations and Missions of Doudart de Lagrée. Extracts from his manuscripts, compiled [...] under the auspices of the Ethnographic Society. Paris, Printed and published by Madame Bouchard-Huzard, widow. Illustrated edition with 10 plates. Half-shagreen binding, ribbed spine with title and initials ‘FF’. Accompanied by a separate, fold-out black-and-white map. The white endpaper bears the inscription ‘Cordier 1015–16’, referring to Henri Cordier, author of the *Bibliotheca Indosinica*. Columns 1015–1016 list publications relating to the Mekong Exploration Mission. This entry is followed by the inscription ‘Personal copy of Félix Faure’. 684 pages. Dimensions: 28 × 23 cm.
First edition by M. A. B. de Villemereuil, based on Doudart de Lagrée’s archives relating to the Mekong Exploration Mission organised by the colonial government of French Cochinchina. Its aim was to assess the navigability of the Mekong towards the Chinese province of Yunnan. The expedition left Saigon on 5 June 1866 and returned there on 29 June 1868.
