Description
Jean BOUCHAUD (1891–1977). Winner of the Indochina Prize in 1924. The Bathers. Circa 1925. Framed oil on canvas, signed lower right. Dimensions: 100x95 cm. “I dreamt of visiting Laos, the ‘Earthly Paradise’.” Jean Bouchaud spent two months in Laos in January and February 1925. During his stay, he focused above all on capturing human types and traditional gestures, particularly those of women – his favourite subject – such as the woman here styling her hair or leaning over the river to wash her clothes.
