Description
A five-course baroque guitar by MARCHAL, made in Paris in 1786, bearing an original label affixed to the inside of the back reading ‘Marchal à Paris 1786’ and a label from the restorer Cheville Avignon. The soundboard purfling and the rim of the soundhole feature a pistachio-nut motif; the back and sides are decorated with alternating bands of maple, mahogany and ebony purfling. Traces of worm damage and cracks on the ribs, soundboard and back; restoration work on the neck and head; traces of former fretting on the fingerboard and soundboard. Instrument in need of restoration
