Description
A Romantic-era guitar by Nicolas Morlot, made in Mirecourt around 1830, bearing the brand mark ‘Nicolas Morlot A Ville de Crémone’ on the top. Back and sides in flamed maple, top in spruce, fingerboard, neck and headstock veneer, and pegs in ebony. The top purfling and rosette border feature a design of mother-of-pearl and ebony inlays; silver frets; the peghead bears a mother-of-pearl escutcheon with the initials ‘DF?’, probably those of the first owner. Spacing at the nut: 46 mm; scale length: 630 mm. Mismatched pegs, small chip to the ‘moustache’. In exceptional condition. In its original case, with a non-original lock and small accessories, a capodastro, pegs and tuning fork.
