Henri Anspach (Brussels, 1882–Portet-sur-Garonne, 1979) was a painter who changed careers after an Olympic fencing career that saw him win a gold medal for Belgium in the team épée event at the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games. Following this victory, he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège under Léon Frédéric.
He then moved to Paris, where he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français (1913), the Salon d’Automne (1920) and the Salon des Indépendants (1926–28), amongst others.
Drawing on these Belgian and French influences, he developed a modern Impressionist style with a luminous colour palette, focusing on the tranquil atmosphere of everyday life and the light in landscapes.
