From the 19th to the 20th century, the Atelier Paul Robin was one of the houses of excellence in Paris. The son of a jeweller, Jean Paul Robin first worked in several workshops, including those of his father Tatout, the famous Manfredini brothers in Milan and Laval. He set up his own business in 1824, in the Palais Royal, among the prestigious boutiques under the arcades.
The House quickly became renowned for the quality of its work and its jewellery-making skills, particularly in the field of chasing, but also for the variety and character of its designs. Its pieces reflect the inspiration of styles in vogue in the mid-19th century, such as Romantic Historicism with medieval figures, the Renaissance with its foliage motifs, shells and mythical creatures, and Naturalism with its leopards and snakes. The owl is an emblematic motif of this style. It brings together all the studio's excellence, such as its search for volume and its chiselling work in the finesse of the feathers. Paul Robin has created a number of different designs, including rings, earrings and this pin.
Paul Robin has also worked with other leading jewellery houses such as Cartier, Baugrand and Fossin.
